Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Almaty and City Tour
Salem! Welcome to Almaty and experience the vibrant cultural and culinary capital of Kazakhstan. Most international flights arrive early in the morning. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the iconic Hotel Kazakhstan. After the check-in at the hotel, you will have the opportunity to have breakfast before we start our city tour. The tour starts from Independence Square, then we continue our way to the renowned Kasteev State Art Museum. After the guided tour of the collections and exhibitions, we will have lunch at the restaurant Korsi, where we will enjoy traditional Kazakh cuisine in a very cozy setting. After lunch, we will explore the Panfilov park and Zenkov cathedral. In the evening, we have reservations at restaurant Tarih, where guests will enjoy the special welcome dinner as per Kazakh tradition.
Day 2: Almaty - Charyn National Park
In the morning, after breakfast, we will begin our grand safari adventure of Jetisu by heading to Charyn National Park to take a hike at the Charyn Canyons. Nicknamed the lesser Grand Canyon, because of its resemblance to the one located in the USA, it still impresses everyone who visits the rock formations. After the exploration of the canyon, we will stop to have lunch. At the cafe Tari Say Dasturi, you will be introduced to the Kazakh tea culture and snacks of your choosing. Then we head towards Tautas Charyn Glamping, which is located in the canyon near the village of Chundja to settle for the night. For a breathtaking view of the canyon, we will visit the park's observation points, especially during sunrise or sunset when the panorama reveals its awe-inspiring beauty. No words can truly capture the magnificence of this sight.

Day 3: Charyn - Jarkent - Altyn Emel National Park
After breakfast we will head to the town of Jarkent to see the main attraction of the city - Jarkent Mosque, a 19th century architectural concept with the elements of a Buddhist temple. Unique religious building, very richly decorated with wooden carving and vivid polychromic fresco paintings. It was built in 1895 to the design of the Chinese architect Hon Piquet using the collected funds of immigrants. We will have lunch in the city before continuing our adventure to Altyn Emel National Park. It is one of the largest national parks in Kazakhstan and known for spectacular scenery that includes mountains, sand deserts, sandstone formations, and steppes. The highlight of the park is the Singing Dune, which got its name because wind makes the sand emit a rumbling sound. We will stop at Tautas Altyn Emel Glamping to

Day 4: Altyn Emel - Tekeli - Lower Kora Gorge

Have a breakfast with gorgeous views from the Altyn Emel Glamping sight. Our safari adventure will take us through the national park and arrive at the village of Tekeli. It holds the distinction of housing Kazakhstan's oldest Buddhist monument, the Tekeli Stele, also known as Kelinshektas, offering direct evidence of the historical practice of Buddhism and Zoroastrianism in the region.
We will set up a temporary camp near the sights to have lunch with a beautiful view and refill our energy. After the meal, we will start approaching the lower Kora Gorge. It is one of the most visited gorges in the park and contains a huge variety of flora and fauna. There are more than 3,000 species of plants, including edelweiss, including famous Sivers apple trees. Dinner will be prepared and served at the camp that we will set up in the valley, near the Kora River.

Day 5: Lower Kora Gorge - Qapal - Burkhanbulak Waterfall

Wake up in the morning to the magnificent views of Jongar Alatau Mountains and enjoy breakfast surrounded by pristine nature. After the meal, we will continue our journey and head to the ancient town of Qapal, known for its famous Tamshybulak springs with healing properties that are located in the area. Very first article about the Qapal village was published in St. Petersburg magazine "Around the World", describing the spring in 1869. We will have lunch in the village before heading to the Burkhanbulak Waterfall which is part of Jongar Alatau Mountains and upper Kora Gorge. The Burkhanbulak River, which forms the waterfall, flows down from the Karatau Mountains. The camp for the night will be set up near the river. Dinner will be served at the camp while enjoying the sounds of flowing water and views of the mountain.

Day 6: Burkhanbulak Waterfall - Bayan Jurek Ridge - Kalakai - Ushkol Lakes

After breakfast on the edge of the Burkhanbulak River, we will head to witness the petroglyphs dating back to the Early Bronze, Iron, and Turkic periods at Bayan Jurek Ridge. The rock paintings are categorized into two distinct complexes: the western part of the ridge, and Tasbas Tract, situated in the eastern region. The next stop will be at Kalakai Monument which dates back to the first millennium BC and is a testament to the early Scythian civilization that once inhabited the region. We will explore the area further until we come back to the camp to have lunch near the monument. The main goal of the day is to reach Ushkol Lakes located on the foothills of Jongar Alatau Mountains. These pockets of serene lakes represent the pristine untouched nature that the park can offer to few lucky visitors that come by. Dinner will be served at the camp that will be set in the surrounding area.

Day 7: Ushkol Lakes - Ekiasha - Topolevka

In the morning, have breakfast with a great view of the lakes and mountains. We will advance our safari adventure through Sarkand to stop by the Jongar Alatau National Park office. Our journey continues along a picturesque mountain road to Ekiasha village, where you'll see the Aulie Tas Rock and enjoy a picnic lunch in its vicinity. Subsequently, we'll head to Topolevka village, home to the largest concentration of Sievers wild apple-trees in Kazakhstan. We will have a chance to explore the area and taste some original apples. After settling in the village guest house, dinner will be served, and you'll have the chance to unwind and rest for the night.

Day 8: Topolevka - Jongar Alatau - Lake Jasylkol

We will have a traditional Kazakh breakfast at the guest house with fresh ingredients from the farms. Following breakfast, we'll venture to the highest valleys of the Jongar Alatau, once used to supply honey to the last emperor of Russia, Nicholas II. We will have a chance to grab some honey with us on our way to Lake Jasylkol. Surrounded by towering mountains and lush forest trees, the lake is located in an mesmerizing location. The water's color changes from time to time depending on the season, weather, and melting glaciers. We will explore the area around the lake and a bit further before coming back for dinner at the camp that will be set up by the water.

Day 9: Lake Jasylkol - Agynkaty River - Lepsi

Breakfast by the lake Jasykol will be one of the most memorable moments of this adventure. Morning sun reflecting from the lake’s surface is a great addition to our first meal of the day. Following the meal we will hike to the source of the Agynykaty River that flows through the national park and fills Lake Jasylkol. After the exploration of the river source, we'll return to the camp by the lake for lunch. After that we'll descend to the apiary of the Jongar Alatau and reach the village of Lepsi located downhill. At Lepsi, an accommodation in a guest house will be provided, where you can access the bathhouse facilities. Later in the evening, dinner will be served at a cozy setting with traditional Kazakh entertainment.

Day 10: Lepsi - Sarkand

In the morning, we will receive a breakfast at the guest house made with ingredients from the farms nearby. After the meal, we will go to the Museum of Lepsi History that is located in the village. Archaeological findings from the area suggest that the village of Lepsi was already inhabited in the 12th century, as evidenced from the burial stones, known as Balbals. The last stop of our journey lies in the town of Sarkand. We will check into the guest house to rest and prepare to have the Farewell Dinner organized by the team to celebrate the end of the unforgettable and wonderful journey. Our safari adventure through the highlights of the legendary Jetisu region has come to an end.

Day 11: Departure from Sarkand

We will depart for Almaty after our breakfast at the guest house. Our services are available if you need to transfer from the city center to the train station, the airport or a hotel.
